Codes Could Be On The Bottom Right Side Of The Block Too.

Possible Match For Suffix Code Ending With "DE" V0320DE Suffix Code "V" Is From Flint Michigan Starting In 1967 Up. Prior To 1967, Flint Michigan Code Would Have Started With an "F" Dating From 1957-1967. Which Means This Engine Would Have To Be From 1967 Forward To Be a 283. There Is Only One Match For a 283ci Motor From The Flint Michigan Plant In 1967.

If  It's a 1967 283ci. It Would Have Came out of a 1967 El Camino Or Chevelle. With 195hp And a 2-Speed Automatic Powerglide Transmission.

Code     Year        CI          HP        Equipment           Car
 DE       1967       283       195           2B, PG            CH,EC

The 307 Was Made From 1968 To 1973. There are Only Two Suffix Codes Left That Could Be A Match. One From 1968 and The Other From 1969. A Date Code Showing The Year Is Needed To Finish De-Codeing This Engine. Possible Scenarios:

Code    Year        CI         HP         Equipment         Car
 DE     1968      307ci.    200hp       2B, PG         CH,EC,NO
 DE     1969      307ci.    200hp       2B, 4S      CA,CH,EC,NO

                          Equipment Abbreviations

                        PG = Power Glide Transmission

                        4S = 4 Speed Transmission

                                      Automobiles

        CA = Camaro     -----------------------   EC = El Camino
        CH = Chevelle    ----------------------   NO = Nova

 It Would Have Been So Easy To Drop a 307 In And Be Done With It. They Have The Same Blocks. Just About Everything Has Date Codes, Transmissions Too. So The 4 Speed Could Be Original To The Car. Unless You Know Otherwise.

 Without Ever Actually Seeing The Car. With All The Information Collected Without The Date Code, and From Seeing The Pics Of  Your Dash Cluster That Does Not Show Any Indicators Of  Being an Automatic (Park - Reverse- Natural, Etc.) And The 57 Chevy Did Come Out With a Floor Mounted 4 Speed Manual Shifter In The 2nd Half  Of  Production.

 My Best "Guess" Is The Motor Was Most Probably Born As a 307ci. With 200hp Equipped With a 2 Barrel Carburetor And a 4, Speed Transmission. That Came Out Of a Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino Or a Nova . The Year Could Be Anywhere From 1968 To 1973. But The only Two That's Left As a Possible Match Is 1968 & 1969. All Other "DE" Code Possibilities Does Not Have The Correct Year For The "V" Stamp. That's What The Numbers Are Giving Me. The 307 Came Out In Just About Everything During That Period, Even Impalas. I'll Need The Date Code From The Block To Finish.
